    Tips for Working Smarter, Not Harder (As a Business)

    As a business, productivity is key. This is because, in today’s world, your competitors will constantly be looking for different methods to ensure that they are as productive as possible in the creation and provision of both goods and services. Without being able to keep up with that productivity, you will fall behind. However, productivity is not only about how hard you as an individual work – there is a natural limit to how far you can push a human. It is also, and according to some, mostly, down to how you work, the technology you use, and the whole set up. Most would agree that output can be maximised by working smarter and not harder. There is a multitude of different ways to do this, however. Here are some tips to do so:

    1) Outsource your IT needs

    As a business, it can be extremely expensive and often ineffective to maintain your own IT department. Focusing your capital and resources on the area your business specialises in would be much more productive. Outsourcing your IT needs would also be cheaper, as you would only have to pay when you require IT work, as opposed to paying a permanent team.     2) Delegate

    If you are running a business, then it is important not to take too much of the workload yourself. Employees can take much of the workload, and if you notice that some of them do not have many of their own tasks to do, ask them to do something else.

    3) Prioritise

    Make sure to do the most important and urgent tasks first. Therefore, even if you did not get all of your tasks finished in the time you set, at least you would have managed the most necessary of them, and thus maximising your efficiency. Without setting your priorities straight, you could have a hard time.

    4) Limit your meeting times

    Sometimes, meetings can go on and on for far longer than they need to. As a result, it can often be a good idea to limit your meeting times (for example, 30 minutes), and set a specific desired outcome. This should help your meeting to become less time-consuming and more productive.

    5) Be cautious about who you hire

    Your workforce is one of the main factors that determine your productivity. As a result, it is extremely important to hire motivated, smart and efficient workers. Hire people that are smarter than you or at least good at things that you are weak at.

    6) Take a break

    Now and then, it is important for both you and your workers to take a mental and physical break. This will allow you to recharge your batteries, and approach your issues with a fresh mind, which can often be more productive. In your free time, be sure to relax, but also take up some hobbies that you personally enjoy.
