    Storing your items for short or long term needs doesn’t have to cost a fortune, and cheap storage options often stand up side-by-side with more costly facilities in comparisons. Here are some tips for renters looking for a good deal yet adequacy when choosing a storage unit.

    Compare Indoor and Outdoor Storage

    There are some perks to having a drive up, floor level storage unit if you have lots of heavy items and plan to need routine access. However, there are also some perks to having a units indoors, especially if dealing inclement weather is common in the region. Weigh the pros and cons of each before signing a contract.

    Insurance Considerations

    Even cheap storage units will have an option for a third-party insurance policy to be purchased to compensate you if items are damaged. However, if you currently have renter’s or homeowner’s insurance, your unit’s contents may already be covered under an existing policy. Make sure that your policy has limitations ample enough to cover the replacement costs of your valuables.

It’s important to pack smart and be aware of the region’s elemental risks such as earthquakes and hurricanes, so that you can adequately choose a unit that meets those needs.

    When packing up your items into your rental space, be prepared for the worst conditions with superior stacking methods and even elevating platforms if flooding is a risk. If you have a lot of goods that don’t hold up well to extreme elements, invest in a climate-controlled self-storage unit for optimal results for long-term use.
